So listen …
Y’all always get the deep, intellectual me, but tonight, let’s keep it real:
I am sitting here, minding my business, scrolling Pinterest for Gwennie’s birthday ideas, thinking about back-to-school season as a teacher, when one of my homegirls calls me talking about how it’s going UP on Facebook over these Sprayground book bags.
And I just have to say:
Every year, y’all want these kids to walk into school dripped out in the latest book bag, worried about the look.
Meanwhile, as a teacher, I am over here worried about what’s inside the book bag.
✅ Pencils
✅ Pens
✅ Paper
✅ Highlighters
✅ Glue sticks
✅ A charger for that Chromebook that’s forever dead by third period
While y’all are out here debating fashion, I am in these classrooms praying a child shows up with a working pencil so they can actually learn.
That Sprayground book bag? It is just as ugly as it wants to be (I said what I said). But if that is what you want to spend your money on, that is your business.
Because let’s be real:
When my baby girl gets of age, Mama will run it, too. I work ten million jobs to make sure she has exactly what she needs and most of what she wants.
So, do you.
Get the book bag if you want.
But while you are at it, please get these kids some supplies, too.
Coming from a teacher who is also a parent, I am just asking us to act like we are at least 10% invested in these children’s education this year, not just what is trending on Facebook.
Because at the end of the day, a $90 book bag with no supplies inside is just a flex with no purpose.
Don’t get it twisted, I like to put them clothes on, too. I am with the drip. I’m just also with the supplies.
What are your non-negotiables for back-to-school shopping? Drop them below, and let’s help each other prepare these babies for a thriving school year; fashion, function, and all.
Until Next Time,
Keep Living!
Love, Loren
